Opened in Historic New Harmony on October 9, 1999 at the Atheneum Visitors Center, the GERMANY IN US regional montage backwall system remained on display there until October 23, 1999. GERMANY IN US then visited the University of Southern Indiana University Center from October 25, 1999 until November 28, 1999. The GERMANY IN US statewide graphic centerpiece with learning centers debuted in Indianapolis at Eli Lilly and Company the month of January 2000. GIU then visited The Athenaeum at 401 E. Michigan Street in Indianapolis before moving on to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at the Hilbert Circle Theatre on Monument Circle. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra joined as a partner with the Indiana Humanities Council and its statewide GERMANY IN US program to present two evenings of German music on Friday and Saturday, February 11-12, 2000, at the Hilbert Circle Theatre. The statewide GERMANY IN US graphic centerpiece and computer learning centers, which include the simulated GIU Web site, was on display both evenings. The concerts featured the ISO with guest conductor Christof Perick, Wolfgang Holzmair, Baritone, Ute Selbig, Soprano and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir performing Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss and Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johann Brahms. From March 16 until April 28, 2000, the GIU statewide graphic centerpiece with learning centers and the GIU Backwall regional exhibit featuring Southwest Indiana German heritage was on display at the IUPUI University Library, 755 W. Michigan Street in Indianapolis. Both GIU exhibits were situated outside the Payton Philanthropic Studies Library. See the exhibits at http://www.ihc4u.org/international/giu/giugraphictr.htm. GERMANY IN US was introduced to the northeastern part of the state at Fort Wayne's annual German Fest celebration in June 2000. From there, it traveled to Jasper in Dubois County and the Dubois County Museum. Dubois County boasts one of the state's highest rates of German ancestry. The GERMANY IN US exhibit was on hand during Jasper's 15th anniversary celebration of the Sister City relationship between Jasper and Pfaffenweiler, Germany as well as Jasper's Strassenfest in August 2000.
